Description

With the ongoing decline of sales in recorded music and the associated reduction in the number of reliable jobs in the recording sector, audio engineers are increasingly looking to employment in live sound. At the same time, innovations in live sound technologies have made room for new and innovative paradigms in live sound production, immersive audio and sound reinforcement. This workshop brings together individuals working in acoustics, live sound, and immersive audio to discuss the current state of live sound, issues specific to audio for live performance, and future directions for sound system design and implementation.

    • Matthew Azevedo, A hearing-based approach to architecture, acoustics, and performance
Hearing is critical to how humans experience their environment. Its omnidirectional and involuntary nature give hearing the ability to constantly probe the full environment, as opposed to voluntary, directional nature of seeing. Despite, or possibly because of, the constancy of hearing its mechanisms are poorly understood by most people. By gaining an understanding of the mechanisms of hearing, we gain a powerful critical tool in understanding not only our environment but also of how we express and experience music.

    • Michal Seta, A spatializer for heterogeneous audio formats and haptic feedback
In this workshop I will present Spatial Audio Toolkit for Immersive Environment (SATIE) for simultaneous rendering of audio scenes composed of various spatialization methods. I will specifically refer to approaches of weaving object-based audio, ambisonics, real-time and non-real-time rendering, ambisonic acoustic simulation with vaRays and interfacing with our haptic floor prototype.
