Darcy Kuronen, MFA's Pappalardo Curator of Musical Instruments welcomed Robert to the department wit the following:
"It is with great pleasure that I announce that Bobby Giglio has begun working with the Department of Musical Instruments as Department Coordinator. Bobby comes to the MFA with a variety of musical and museum training. He began his studies at the Purchase Conservatory of Music in New York, where he discovered his penchant for historical instruments (particularly the cornetto). At McGill University in Montreal, he continued this interest with research about historical keyboard instruments, undertaking a two-year research project at Montreal’s Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT). The project made use of advanced technology—including high-speed video and 3D motion capture—to investigate the motions of mechanisms in early pianos. At the Orpheus Institute in Gent (Belgium), Bobby continues to collaborate on a project working with a recently created replica of Beethoven’s French piano by Erard, where his role has been to likewise carry out high-speed investigations of its piano action. After earning his Master of Arts degree in Musicology from McGill, Bobby worked two terms as a Curatorial Intern at the National Music Museum in Vermillion, South Dakota. Bobby has also trained in museum education through the Rhode Island School of Design Museum’s volunteer-educator program, and serves as an on-call educator for that museum."
